National Urban Ministry Association

           The National Urban Ministry Conference was one valuable tool; however, it alone was not enough to meet the needs of urban ministries across America.  In addition to the conference, a systemic mechanism is needed to address the crucial issues urban ministries face today.   This cannot happen simply through an annual conference.

            The National Urban Ministry Conference was a single event.  Resources are needed to help urban workers between conferences.  What strategies need to be in place to facilitate meeting the needs of urban workers?  Urban ministry is grueling work, so how do we keep urban workers healthy?  How do we help urban workers avoid burnout?  What other resources and support are needed in order to provide resources for urban ministries to flourish?

            There are various associations in America that provide resources and a voice for those working in a common field.  For example, there is the American Dental Association and the Christian Community Development Association.  According to the Encyclopedia of Associations, there are about 23,000 associations.   Other than the CCDA, there is no major association for those working in urban ministry.  The National Urban Ministry Association serves a similar function as other association for those working in urban ministry.  It will help to provide services, support, and resources for those serving in urban ministry in our cities.   The National Urban Ministry Association will host the annual National Urban Ministry Conference beginning in 2012.
